Earth Day 2009 - West Area Hosts Client Sustainability Summit
The West area hosted a Sustainability Summit for its clients at Park Place in Irvine CA on Wednesday, April 22 in honor of Earth Day. More than 75 attendees and clients from Southern California participated in the summit, titled Making Every Day a Better Day – Every Tomorrow a Better Tomorrow. The summit featured former nationally syndicated columnist, and author of more than a dozen books, including his newest, Strategies for the Green Economy, Joel Makower. Makower presented to the attendees his business case for corporations and aligning environmental strategy with business success. Arlin Wasserman, Sodexo’s VP of Corporate Citizenship, shared Sodexo’s sustainability efforts and strategic initiatives to increase the benefits to people and planet from innovations in food service and facilities management. SodexoMAGIC Chairman and CEO Earvin “Magic” Johnson spoke on his philosophy that focuses on representing and serving ethnically diverse, urban communities and his commitment to responsible corporate citizenship. Cross-divisional clients that were in attendance included Pacific Life, Disney, Cal State University – Channel Islands, Alliant International University, Toyota, Kaiser Permanente, Rancho Santiago Community College, Chicago Botanic Gardens, to name a few.
In addition, a trade fair was held after the conference that included displays and samples of aspretto, Sodexo’s sustainable hot beverage offering, Sodexo’s Employee Network Groups, Express Your Inner Green, Sustainability & Environment Expert Development network (SEED), Sodexo Foundation, STOP Hunger and SodexoMAGIC.
Clients were treated to an autographed copy of Joel Makower’s book Strategies for the Green Economy and were given the opportunity to visit with “Magic” Johnson for photos and autographs.
